The fortunate finder, with eyes gleaming in delight, was bestowed with the honour of leading the community in a spirited rendition of a holiday carol. Modern stories tell a different tale, of children searching for the festive cucumber on Christmas morning and the winner receiving a special prize or the honour of opening the first present of the day. The tradition of the Christmas pickle is a whimsical affair, that adds an element of playful competition to the holiday season. This is ‘Weihnachtsgurke’.
